Books - June 2009

Books:

  • Darkly dreaming Dexter - - Novel/Book where the TV series called Dexter bases on. First time it is difficult to say which one was better; the original book which was great or series which also is great even it's damn difficult to believe the actor who played the role of Dexter brother Brian to be his elder brother... More it had suited that Rita's ex Paul had played that role. x'D They were almost alike after all... But this blog is not about series or movies I have watched recently... I think I like the idea of Dexter being himself as a sort of dark antihero. There's just way too much hero did this and hero did that so it begins to be boring. Or if it is from the murderer's or antihero's point of view the author usually hates the character and after reading few more pages so will usually the reader either begin to wish the antihero's quick death or end of the book or they toss the book in the corner and go to read something else. Not with this... No,no... This presents a person who sure is honest to himself and wonders about the life around him and actually does huge favor by hunting and putting down other serial killers. It makes him sort of different type of hero from polished hero stereotypes. And as for spoiler... LaGuerta should have died by Brian killing her and Dexter going after Doakes later... ;) ( 03.6.2009 )
  • Barry Trotter and shameless parody - Michael Gerber - I would lie if I claimed I didn't like it. It was fun and very very different from Harry Potter. I don't hate or mock Potter but the story was highly overrated though the movies were good. ( 11.06.2009 )
  • Barry Trotter and unnecessary sequel - Michael Gerber - It was much better than the 1th book and I did enjoy the parody of the wizard's game's extreme version. I know it might have been grose and terrible but that scene made me laugh.... ^^' ( 19.06.2009 )
  • Bored by The Ring - - Parody of Tolkien's LoTR and I must say it was shorter, less boring and hilarious stuff to read. Loru sorbusten herrasta in Finnish. ;)(22.06.2009 )
  • The Girl who luved Tom Gordon - Stephen King - This was good! What I do not surely understand why they had to rename the book here as The god of the lost ones... Eksyneiden jumala in Finnish... ( 24.06.2009 )
  • The Woods out back - R.A. Salvatore - It was interesting story but... Things that I noticed, actually few little bloopers; at the quite beginning Kelsey keeps talking about that he also needs to recruit a goblin thief and they need to somewhere and that thief is as important to his task as is kidnapping leprechaun, Mickey, human, Gary, and dwarf for blacksmith. Giant they meet by luck. -But they never go to seek that thief they need. * shock * Another thing that they forget is the giant scab that Gary killed in the cave before entering to dragon's castle. They were hungry and they were planning to take it or parts of flesh with them when they get back and have sort of feast... Well, they do get escorted out by the same way but the author could have bother to explain what happened to the scab... Did those lizard guards took or did they stop to get a piece of it or what?! But battles.... those Salvatore does describe well and book was enjoyable after all but I'm quite amused by to see sloppy parts in the plot that don't make no sense. O..O' (28-06-2009)
